WhatsApp with free voice calls
WhatsApp with free voice calls
It has long been rumored that WhatsApp is slated to get voice calling features something which was confirmed by the companys CEO earlier this year. The feature was initially expected to roll out in the second half of this year, but was delayed due to technical difficulties, and is now scheduled to be released in the first half of 2015.
Now, the folks over at AndroidWorld have unearthed some screenshots of the upcoming voice calling feature in WhatsApp for Android. The screenshots show how the incoming call screen, the call log screen, and how a missed call will be displayed in WhatsApp. Apparently, it will also be possible to record a phone call and listen to them again at a later time.
WhatsApp is also reportedly working on a web client for its messaging service something which the service is sorely lacking.
With over 500 million active users, WhatsApp is the most popular messaging service out there, including Facebook Messenger, which acquired the former recently. The companys CEO had revealed a couple of months ago that the team is facing a few technical difficulties in bringing voice calling to WhatsApp, especially in areas where data networks are spotty and slow. WhatsApp is mainly popular in developing countries like India and Pakistan where 2G is still the most prevalent form of mobile data used by consumers.
